Top 10 Chick Flicks

The Notebook (2004)

By Jane Louise Boursaw

You know a movie's going somewhere when it starts out with James Garner reading a story to Gena Rowlands in a nursing home. Based on the book by Nicholas Sparks, this movie follows two young lovers, Allie and Noah (Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling), who meet one evening at a carnival. Their friendship quickly progresses into a summer romance, complicated by the disapproval of Allie's wealthy parents, who'd rather she hook up with a social climber than the poor Noah. So they take her away, and after not hearing from Noah for several years, Allie gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon (James Marsden). But she's never forgotten Noah, and one day she stops by his home – a 200-year-old house he restored FOR HER. How will she ever choose between her fiancé and her first love? And what about James Garner and Gena Rowlands? Rest assured, this isn't one of those cheesy chick-flicks. It's the real deal.
